 WELCOME TO YUMA 4X4!

Welcome to Yuma 4X4!
Yuma, Arizona's definitive home for active 4X4 enthusiasts!

  • The Yuma 4-Wheelers (Yuma 4X4) is a 4-wheel drive club that runs old dirt roads, washes and trails of varying difficulties.
  • Membership is free. There's no dues, or membership fees.
  • Only licensed 4X4 owners, 18, or older and willing to follow our rules are welcome to join.
  • Yuma 4X4 is made up from a random collection of 4X4 owners from Yuma, AZ and all over the USA and Canada. Winter visitors are welcome! We have many winter visitors in the club that go 4-wheeling with us year, after year.
  • All makes and sizes of 4-wheel drive trucks and SUV's are welcome. Sorry, but at this time we do not allow 2WD buggies, side-by-sides, quads, or motorcycles to run with us.
  • 4X4's do not need to be modified to run with us. Modified rigs are welcome too, just as long as they are street legal (pretty much).
  • Yuma 4X4 is an active 4X4 club, that stays active through out the year - Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall. That makes us a 4X4X4 club! We coordinate at least 2 runs, per month.

We invite everyone who is interested in joining Yuma 4X4 to come to our bi-weekly Meet & Greets, here we discuss everything from 4X4 related stuff and up coming events to... Currently we meet every-other Thursday (look for dates on the Club Calendar), at 6:00 pm. Please contact us via email for current location, as the locations change. We are currently seeking a meeting location in the Foothills that can accommodate our club.

2009 Toy Run
We held our 4th Annual Toy Run Jambo yesterday (12-19-2009) and it went off without a hitch! There were 24 4X4's divided up into 2 groups so we would not violate the max number of rigs (20) set by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

We had all types of vehicles on the run, from stock Suzuki Vitara's to highly modified Jeeps.

34 toys and $45.00 were donated. On December 23, 2009, we will be handing out the toys and turkey dinners to 12 families out of Somerton, AZ. If you would like to help, show up at the West Wetlands Park (1200 W. Water St.) on the 23rd, at 5:00 PM.

2009 Santa Run
Thanks to everyone that donated! Because of all your generous donations, we were able to to help more families at Christmas time this year!
Thanks to Edith Benevedez and Primera Iglesia Bautista Church for rounding up the families for us.
This year was as special as last year. The adults were very thankful for the dinners, one lady even left us with some Mexican goodies (tamalies and crispy tortillas with caramel and honey)!
The kids were especially pleased with their toys. Their faces looked curious, then they lit up when they were handed the new toys.
There were a number of toys left over and those were dropped off at the Crossroads Mission's The Family Shelter to be given to the kids there.

 4-WHEELING TIPS

  • Be prepared! Carry a spare tire and a jack that will lift your vehicle, plus a basic set of tools. JB Weld is good to have and don't forget plenty of purified water for you and your 4X4. (Non-purified water (tap water is not good either) creates corrosion inside the engine block and radiator. To keep your cooling system clean and clog free, use filtered, purified water, with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/coolant.
  • Read your owners manual thoroughly before going off-road, or on road for that matter. Get to know your vehicle. Know your vehicles height, width, "Approach angle", "Break-over" and "Departure angle". Knowing these figures, you'll be able to negotiate obstacles much easier without damage to your vehicle.
  • Never go out alone. A short venture could be costly.
  • Check your vehicle before and after each Trail Run. Check the fluids and look for any new leaks.
  • Air down for better traction and a better, smoother ride. Airing down will NOT increase your risk of sidewall pucture. In fact, it's the other way around. A hard tire will not "flex" and a rock, or stick is likely to pop your tire. A soft tire will give, rather than resist. Take a balloon and fill it to max capacity, then poke it with a tooth-pick. It will pop with little or no effort. Take another balloon and fill it about half of the max capacity. Poke it with a tooth-pick. The balloon will be harder to pop. It will give, forming to the tooth-pick.
  • The Yuma 4X4 philosophy is "finesse". The finesse of 4-wheeling is to keep all 4 wheels on the ground and to go as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary.
