UP-FRONT MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB LEADER:
It is quite often that people come into this club with the wrong idea of what a 4X4 Club is and what we do here as Yuma 4X4 as a 4X4 Club. Sometimes we get young people that think 4-wheeling is about total freedom to do whatever they want in the desert, including getting drunk and driving their 4X4. They come with the preconceived idea that 4-wheeling is all about damage. All this is false! Trails closures are on the rise since Obama got into office. Millions of acres were closed to off-roading in 2009. More land and trails are slated for closure in 2010. Don't get me wrong! We get some older folks that come in and have an idea of what they think a 4X4 Club is and how it should be ran. Some of them have "advised" me that I should charge people to be in the club. Once in a blue moon we get a senior that think they entitled to some sort of special treatment. WRONG! I don't care where you came from, or who you worked for, or what war you fought in, nobody is entitled to anything, including special treatment! When ever I hear someone say things like; "I've been 4-wheeling for [blank amount] of years...", or "I grew up Jeep'n" I don't listen, so don't bother wasting your breath. Just show us what you know. Once I had a guy claim he had been off-roading for more than 35 years, and he's never had to air down his tires. Here's some pictures of the guy, on his first and last run with us, doing a recovery of a Suzuki Samurai. I call him a Dumb-Ass! This guy made a number of mistakes within about 30 minutes. Mistake #1 - He did not wait for the Trail Leader to issue the order to begin the recovery. Mistake #2 - He backed his rig down the hill. Mistake #3 - He put the other driver and his rig in danger of being damaged, injured, or killed by flying rocks. The logical order would have been to have a 4X4 equipped with a winch park at the top and winch the Samurai up the hill. A few rigs in the group had winches, including the dumb-ass! If he had been 4-wheeling for 35 years, I think he would have been able to figure that out. He was just being a dumb-ass. We never saw the guy in the Samurai again. He told me that he was scared to death. He couldn't see where he was going and just prayed that he was still on the trail. This is just one example of the many dumb-asses that come out and do something stupid. Some of you foothills residents might recognize the Jeep. I run a very tight ship here. Most people, young and old alike, are often in agreement with the way I run things here. The ones that don't agree don't stay long. I've been running this club for 5 years. By now, I know what works and what don't. My goal is NOT to restrict, or control anyone. My goals are to keep the sport of 4-wheeling fun, safe, legal and to keep out trails and public lands open to the public. If you don't get this, please stay away from this 4X4 Club!

THE FACTS:
The fact is, this club has one (1) leader. No "president". No "chairman". No "club officers". It was not my intention to have it this way, but it is, what it is because the members chose to have it this way. I have been doing it this way for so long, it is no longer a debate. If you can't handle someone else being in charge, then you need to find another club. EXCEPTION: There are some members that I go to for issues where I think I need other opinions. These members are my CO-LEADERS. Besides coming to me, you can go to them if you need help. Another fact fact is, we all started out in this 4X4 Club as strangers. None of us knew each other from Adam. So we probably don’t know you and you probably don’t know us either. Here's some ground rules we have come up with to sort of set the mood. You can read these and decide from the start if this is the right club for you, or not. We understand that when people come together, sometimes they clash. That's just part of being human. We just ask that if you can't do things our way, just keep on stepping. We have a good relationship with each other. Over 70 active members are in this Club and we all get along. We all might not always see eye-to-eye on everything, but we don't argue about those issues. The most important fact is, this is a 4X4 Club and we all need to make the effort to get along here. Anyone coming in and causing a disruption, or fails to follow rules we have set will be told (not asked) to leave and don't come back!

Ground rules to follow:
I don’t like whiners, but I do welcome suggestions. Yes, there’s a difference. If I like the suggestion, I’ll use it and see how it works.
The Yuma 4X4 Forums are not intended to promote freedom of speech at the cost of losing members, upsetting the group as a whole, or causing problems within the Club.
Thus, I have a responsibility to ensure that posts which the group would find upsetting, grossly off-topic or designed to cause trouble (i.e. flaming) are deleted and members who continually violate this are removed and banned forever with no appeal.
Most people understand that freedom of speech is null and void in forums, but for those who keep crying "censorship" I'd like to suggest that if you start your own forum, you'll have all the freedom you want.
It's the Law! Most of the trails in our riding area is managed either by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), or the United States Marines (Barry M. Goldwater Range). Their rules can be strict at times, but we must always remember to follow them! If you can't follow rules, then we don't need you fouling things up and we ask that you find another club that is more to your liking.
Gun laws in Arizona are more lax than in California. If you carry a loaded firearm into the State of California, and you get caught with it, be prepared to go to jail, have your rig towed, and have you firearm(s) confiscated.
Drinking alcohol while driving off-road is illegal in all 50 states. BLM has ticketed people for an "open container". The tickets are $350.00. We do not have a rule against drinking on our Trail Rides, we just ask that if you do, please be responsible and be smart about it.
Laws pertaining to public lands are found in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 43 Public Lands: Interior. For more information about off-roading on public lands, go to 43 C.F.R. PART 8340 - OFF-ROAD VEHICLES

I asked for an explanation for quitting, and this is what I was told: "What did it for me was that you did not bother to pick up the phone and call me after you decided to cancel the run".
